The Perfect Image Size for Every Social Media Platform (2026)

Every social media platform has its own recommended image dimensions. Upload the wrong size and your image gets cropped awkwardly, stretched, or shown in low quality. This guide gives you exact pixel dimensions for every major platform in 2026.

Instagram

  • Feed post (square): 1080 × 1080px (1:1 ratio)
  • Feed post (portrait): 1080 × 1350px (4:5 ratio — takes up more screen space)
  • Feed post (landscape): 1080 × 566px (1.91:1 ratio)
  • Stories and Reels: 1080 × 1920px (9:16 ratio)
  • Profile photo: 320 × 320px

Instagram compresses images on upload, so start with the highest quality version you can. JPG works well; maximum file size is 30 MB.

Facebook

  • Cover photo: 851 × 315px
  • Profile photo: 170 × 170px (displays at smaller sizes on mobile)
  • Shared image: 1200 × 630px
  • Stories: 1080 × 1920px
  • Event cover: 1200 × 628px

YouTube

  • Thumbnail: 1280 × 720px (minimum 640px wide, 16:9 ratio)
  • Channel art (banner): 2560 × 1440px (safe zone: center 1546 × 423px)
  • Profile photo: 800 × 800px

YouTube thumbnails are critically important for click-through rate. Use high contrast, bold text, and faces for maximum impact. JPG or PNG both work.

LinkedIn

  • Profile photo: 400 × 400px
  • Background banner: 1584 × 396px
  • Shared image: 1200 × 627px
  • Company logo: 300 × 300px
  • Company cover: 1128 × 191px

Twitter / X

  • Profile photo: 400 × 400px
  • Header photo: 1500 × 500px
  • In-tweet image: 1200 × 675px (16:9 recommended)

TikTok

  • Profile photo: 200 × 200px minimum
  • Video cover/thumbnail: 1080 × 1920px (9:16)

Pinterest

  • Pin: 1000 × 1500px (2:3 ratio is the standard)
  • Board cover: 222 × 150px
  • Profile photo: 165 × 165px

Taller pins perform better on Pinterest because they take up more vertical space in the feed. Aim for at least a 2:3 ratio.
